Our Team

Hannah Belec: President

Hannah (she/her) is currently in her fifth and final year pursuing an honors History degree. Hannah is eager to continue working with students, staff, and faculty to enhance the community and student experience within the History Department. Her work as the previous UMHiSA President, UMHiSA Events Chair and with ASBC, UMSU, and the New Student Peer Mentoring Program has provided her with a solid understanding of what students would like to gain from their university experience; a sense of community and connection with the University of Manitoba and their respective faculties and programs. As UMHiSA President, Hannah will continue and improve UMHiSA’s current programming, establish an UMHiSA Historical Book Club, and organize monthly, informal meet-ups off campus. When Hannah is not doing school or council work, you can find her reading, singing, playing guitar, or hanging out with her cats, Dobby and Lorenzo, and her dogs, Oliver, Bowie, and Baxter! Hannah plans to obtain a Master’s Degree in Museum Studies after she graduates in May 2024.

Michael Lacsado: Event Chair

Michael (he/him) is in his fifth year of his honors history degree. Michael is excited to organize an assortment of events and support the UofM history community as the UMHiSA Events Chair this year. His goal is to hold events that can allow history students at the UofM an opportunity to strengthen their particular historical interests with others, make their academic journey easier to navigate with the connections they form, and improve their university experience. His work with Klinic and the SVRC provided him the skills to cultivate and host an environment that he hopes will be both academically and mentally enriching for all history students attending UMHISA events. If Michael is not found at his secret campus study spots, he can be found in random video games communities, at a friend's house, or at IKEA. He plans on becoming a history teacher or school counselor after his undergrad.

You can contact Michael directly by emailing him at Lacsadom@myumanitoba.ca
